Karamea is a quiet and beautiful area at the end of the road at the top of the West Coast of the South Island. Approximately 2 hours drive north from Westport there is a huge hill to drive over that keeps a lot of people away. The southern end of the Heaphy Track - 3 day walking track between Golden Bay and West Coast - is just north of Karamea township.
