Find info on hitchhiking at Hitchwiki.

You have one option to Albania and two to Greece, but distance between Igoumenitsa and Sarandë is so short, you can easily hitch it.

Here are the boats from expensive to cheapest:

  • From Kerkyra to Sarandë (Albania), costs 19e (23e during the season) (checked 2014). It doesn't go very often. It's best to call Ionian Cruises at +30 26610 25155. Off season their boats leave at 9:00 AM but you have to be at their office at Ethnikis Antistaseos 4 at least 40 minutes before the boat leaves. The boat can be a bit rough when there's wind.
  • From Kerkyra to Igoumenitsa (Greece), costs 10e (checked 2014). Goes often.
  • From Kavos to Igoumenitsa (Greece), costs 5e. Goes often.

You can buy tickets from Kerkyra harbour kiosks before the gates.

Hospitality exchange can be hard in Corfu during high season (everybody is full).

Wild Camping

It's said wild camping is not tolerated in Corfu. However, generally you can do it as long as there are no bars or umbrellas for rent at the beach. You don't even need to pitch a tent, its extremely hot in Corfu so nobody can accuse you for "camping". Though in some places there're a lot of tiny annoying mosquitos.

Giali beach

One of the most beautiful and secluded beaches in Corfu. Walk from Giannades through olive tree fields till the end of the road and then follow a steep rocky path down, helped by the ropes installed there. Some people come by boat for a few hours in day time, but most of the time it's empty.

There are two small beaches on both sides of the narrowest spot of the peninsula. A narrow a bit rocky path comes here from Afionas town, that takes maybe 30min to walk. Both beaches are beautiful and empty at night, but are very tiny so get crowded by day time (in summer). There is third beach at the opposite site of the bay (where the boat is on the photo) which almost never gets any visitors, only occasional swimmers from other beaches. You can continue to there by tiny path from other beaches.

It's like a big sand dessert, with trees here and there. Not much shadow, a lot of place to put a tent.

If you want something fancier, Instead of expensive hotels/hostels you can go camping/bungalow:

You could also ask for rooms around from locals (price for these?). Also AirBNB can be cheaper.

Corfu city/Kerkyra is not likely to have budget accommodation.

Corfu is very warm and beautiful during the summer. Around June-August you often don't have any rainy days at all. Winters at island can be rainy though.

It's quite touristic as all the Greek islands, but you can still find plenty of nature spots without crowds and especially Kerkyra can have quite local feel, depending on the street/district.

You can probably find an interesting crowd of people (including folks who are happy to host) at the Polytechno club.

Mon Repos Beach

If you're looking for a nice small empty beach to swim in Kerkyra, head to Mon Repos. Enter through the park gate, go straight towards the museum and just after it follow a path down and right. Map
