Lima
The capital of Peru. The population for Lima is approx 10m which makes Lima the fifth largest city in the Americas. There are 43 districts in Metropolitan Lima area, with great inequality between the richest (Barranco, Miraflores) to the poorest. The link between poverty and danger is not necessarily a good one to make. Many locals will say Central Lima (Cercado de Lima) is the most dangerous area to walk, but you will find the cheapest accommodation there/best local bars etc.

Food
Look for busy restaurants with a board outside advertising a set menu. Includes a starter (normally soup or a small salad), a main course, a drink and sometimes a small dessert. Normally, they have just 2 options for the main course. Pretty standard to have lomo saltado, arroz con pollo or ají de gallina. Pricces range from S3 to S10. Chinese food can be found at the many chifas (normally Cantonese origin). Expect menus of S10-15.
Internet connectivity
Many coffee shops have free wifi, but Starbucks has so many outlets, its worth getting one WIFI code at one Starbucks and reusing it. At moment (sept 2018), there are no time limits, and you can use the code you get at one Starbucks at any other outlet.
