Communication

Communicating with other nomads can be really useful. For example to find travel partners, hosts, and so on.

Internet is great for that, there are different way to do it, some are more efficient.

Chat

To join the community chat add #nomads to your IRC client ( Chatroom , server: freenode.net) or enter via webchat. There are also #hitchhiking, #hackbases, #hackerspaces and #nomadbase for hosting at nomadbases. Note that it can take some time, until somebody answers, or be the one to answer questions.

Mailing lists

To reach more people there are several mailing lists. Reactivity is quite good.

Social media

a word on commercials

Facebook groups are great, because a lot of persons are reading it and using it. It's really efficient But some nomads choose not to use Facebook because of matters like internet neutrality, privacy, decentralisation, or simply because they don't want to give their personal data to US capitalist companies. So please use also alternative to communicate with nomads, so the ones who don't want to use Facebook can still communicate with nomads.

This also applies to other similar social networks. Links to commercial websites can be easily avoided and should be ("every tweet feeds the beast").

Alternatives to facebook are Crabgrass and many instances (map) of Diaspora, for twitter GnuSocial and Mastodon and for self-hosted media Mediagoblin (instances) is available. Still it needs time to administrate software, but there are friendly tech-collectives around which enable everyone to face-out and convince their 'friends'. There's a life outside the blue box.
